Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli will reportedly be offered a new contract by the club having been called up to Gareth Southgate’s senior England squad.
Sky Sports write that the 26-year-old turned down a move to West Ham United this summer after the arrival of fellow goalkeeper Fabri from Besiktas and will now extend his stay in West London.
Bettinelli lost his starting place for the first two matches of the season to Fabri, despite having been instrumental in the Cottager’s promotion from the Championship.
However, manager Slavisa Jokanovic reinstated the Englishman for the home victory over Burnley and he subsequently kept his place for the trip to Brighton and Hove Albion.

His form caught the eye of Southgate who had previously managed Bettinelli in his time with the England U21’s, and the ‘keeper was bought into the senior squad as a fourth goalkeeper for the matches against Spain and Switzerland.
It remains to be seen whether the stopper will get a chance to impress in the match against Switzerland tomorrow night, but the call-up alone will do Bettinelli’s confidence the world of good.
The player has been with the club since 2011, and his current contract runs until the summer of 2020 with the option of a further year.
