Bryan back in first-team contention after injury lay off

Fulham left-back Joe Bryan is likely to return to the matchday squad for this weekend’s clash with Southampton.

As reported by the Fulham website, Bryan has returned to training for the past week under new boss Claudio Ranieri.

The full-back moved to West London from Championship outfit Bristol City in the summer, with the Cottagers reportedly paying £6m for his services.

However, his time with the club has been overshadowed by niggling injuries, with the 25-year-old managing just four Premier League appearances.

He has missed the club’s last five top-flight matches, where his teammates have failed to keep a clean sheet.

In his absence, both Ryan Sessegnon and centre-back Maxime Le Marchand have been forced to fill in on the left side of the defence.

On Bryan, Ranieri said:

He’s training, yes. He’s trained every day, training very well, and I’m thinking also about him because he’s a good player. He’s a very ambitious player and I believe in this guy. I don’t know if he’s ready to play 90 minutes, but he’s ready for my concept of football, my idea about football.
