Fulham keen on Southampton’s Matt Targett
Fulham are reportedly keen to re-sign former loanee Matt Targett from Premier League rivals Southampton.
According to the Evening Standard, Fulham failed with a £15m move for the player in the summer and will try again in the January window.
Targett joined the Cottagers on loan for the second half of last season and made 18 Championship appearances as the club were promoted via the playoffs.
His arrival coincided with an impressive defensive run as Slavisa Jokanovic’s men conceded just 11 goals in a 17-match unbeaten run.
The Cottagers boast the Premier League’s worst defence in the Premier League this campaign, conceding 29 goals in their 11 matches, four more than 15th-placed Burnley.
Having failed to recruit Targett in the summer Fulham instead purchased Joe Bryan in a £6m deal from Bristol City, who has since been sidelined with a hamstring injury.
That has forced Jokanovic to play centre-back Maxime Le Marchand in his place, and on occasion, Ryan Sessegnon has also filled in.
Targett is behind Ryan Bertrand in the St Marys pecking order and has made just one league start this campaign.
